Twenty-nine Cyclones and three teams earn NJCAA academic awards

The NJCAA recognized 29 Moraine Valley student-athletes with the 2020-21 Academic Student-Athlete Award while three teams earned Academic Team of the Year.

NJCAA Academic Student-Athletes must have a 3.6 GPA or higher after completing at least 24 credits and participate in the college's sport for at least one season. Moraine Valley athletes who received this honor are: baseball players John Gonsalves (Tinley Park), Brett Renken (Richards), Scott Richards (Sandburg) and Christopher Villafuerte (Richards); basketball players Maggie Manthey (Sandburg), Nathan Purcell (Lincoln-Way Central) and Katchie Savic (Lincoln-Way East); golfer Jack McDonald (Reavis); runners Jimmy Duffy (Andrew), Jaime Funk (Sandburg), Carlos Galvan (Argo) and Nick Tsiones (Stagg); soccer players Connor Baker (Sandburg), Mateusz Bula (Stagg), Alyssa Froylan (Reavis), Sarah Hughes (Evergreen Park) and Allison Schaar (Schaumburg); softball players Kara Riordan (Lockport) and Zoe Supanich (Sandburg); tennis players Ali Amer (Reavis), Edwin Esparza Hernandez (Eisenhower), Olivia Guzik (Stagg), Yianni Livieratos (Sandburg), Trisha Meyers (Stagg), Lucas Skowyra (Stagg) and Madelyn Stepuszek (Shepard); and volleyball players Nicole Ramirez (Lincoln-Way Central), Meghan Rohe (Shepard) and Jenna Ryan (Marist).

Men's cross country as well as men's and women's tennis earned the Academic Team of the Year award for having a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher for the academic year.

"Last year we had 24 student-athletes on this list, so we're improving every year. This is a testament to the hard work of our athletes and efforts of our Athletics staff. The student-athletes truly represent the college, conference and region, and we couldn't be prouder of them," said Bill Finn, Athletics director.
