Anything can happen early in the season, which was evident in the Cyclones tight matchup with Kishwaukee College. Despite some back and forth, the Cyclones were able to pull away at the end for an 83-74 victory.
The Kougars led from the start, but the Cyclones chipped away to take a brief lead. Although the Kougars went on short run mid-half, Josh Lawson made a layup and two free throws to get his team up. By halftime, the Cyclones were only ahead 37-35. Both teams had rigid defense with the Kougars collecting 10 team fouls and the Cyclones accumulating nine.
Kishwaukee came out in the second half retaking the lead and trading with the Cyclones in the first few minutes. After Grantas Sakenis scored a layup and free throw to get his team ahead, they never trailed again thanks to some big scoring from Ali Oralkan and 11 free throws from Ramzy Barbarawi in his season debut. Defense was key to helping the Cyclones make a surge but caused a few more fouls at games end, with the Kougars collecting 10 more and Moraine Valley with eight.
Oralkan and TJ Lee led the scoring with 17 points each. Reggie Strong and Barbarawi each added 13 points while Lawson collected 10.
