The Cyclones knew what they had to do to match wits with the fast-paced Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers. They kept a tight rein on the Stormers but couldn't get over the hump, falling 98-92.
Averaging 103 points per game, the Stormers are in constant motion to tire out their opponents. The Cyclones knew what they had to do to stop the momentum and did so for most of the matchup. Grantas Sakenis and Reggie Strong scored in the first few minutes of the game to give the Cyclones a scant lead. However, Milwaukee stormed back with several runs throughout the first half to move and stay ahead. Closer to halftime, Sakenis tied the game with a layup and Josh Lawson hit a free throw to regain a one-point lead. The Stormers consistently countered, and by halftime, the Cyclones were down 40-38.
The score remained close at the start of the second half with back-and-forth scoring. However, the Stormers reestablished their fast pace and forced Cyclone errors to create a gap in the score. Going on a few runs, the Stormers stretched their biggest lead to 17 points. But the Cyclones never gave up. In the last seven minutes of the half, Moraine Valley chipped away at the deficit with some big threes from Strong, drives from Yousef Jarad and free throws from Lawson and TJ Lee. In the last 40 seconds of the game, Lawson and Jarad collected four free throws and got their team within five, but the Stormers were fouled and missed few free throws to deal the Cyclones the loss.
Strong led with 27 points followed by Lawson (15 points), Jarad (15 points), Lee (13 points) and Ali Oralkan (11 points).
The Cyclones end the 2025 half of the season 8-6 overall and return on Jan. 6 to start conference play at home against Waubonsee Community College.
