Balanced attack propels Cyclones past Chiefs in conference opener

It was a whole bench effort for the Cyclones as they earned a 92-78 victory over Waubonsee Community College in their conference opening game of 2026.

The Chiefs came into this game with a 10-4 overall record, averaging 102.4 points per game while the Cyclones were 8-6 with an 83.9 points per game average. It took some time for the Cyclones to find their rhythm as the Chiefs led for most of the first half. A three-pointer from Ja'Ron Powell helped the Cyclones go on a few runs to recapture and hold on to the lead for the rest of the matchup. By halftime, the Cyclones were up 47-33.

While the Chiefs attempted to claw back in the second half, some big defensive plays from Noah Harris and Lawson Walker and some big threes from TJ Lee, Reggie Strong and Ali Oralkan helped boost Moraine Valley ahead for their first conference win.

Lee led the offense with 21 points followed by Powell (20 points), Strong (17 points), Oralkan (12 points) and Josh Lawson (11 points).
