Cyclone fire dims in second half playoff loss

The Cyclones started with some fire in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 4 Division II playoffs, but lost steam in the second half, ultimately ending their run, and season, to Triton College.

Coming in as the No. 10 seed, the Cyclones had the drive, with sophomores Dawid Kurzeja and Fernando Alvarez each scoring within the first 15 minutes to go up 2-0. Before the half was over, however, the No. 7 seeded Trojans scored off a rebound shot to cut the lead.

The second half became a little murkier for the Cyclones. They fouled in the box, allowing the Trojans to even the match on a penalty kick. Then the Cyclones went down a player with a red card, and in the last 10 minutes of the game, the Trojans scored twice to deal Moraine Valley the 4-2 loss.

"We had a great start but were plagued by inconsistency that we've struggled with all season and fell apart in the second half," said Head Coach Chris Koloffon. "We tried and felt we had the guys ready. We just could never quite get over the hump this season."
