Heat was the biggest obstacle for the Cyclones at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island. Times were slow overall for every participating college, but the Cyclones took ninth out of 12 teams.
Moraine Valley was the only community college in attendance and held their own on the 8K course. Angelo Esparza finished first for the Cyclones in 28:11.5 for 34th place out of 169 finishers. Coming in after him was Andrew Leon (28:49.8, 57th place), Gavin Rybicki (30:20.9, 99th place), Jacob Madera (31:35.2, 122nd place), Brennan Rudolph (32:49.3, 141st place), Matthew Busch (33:11.6, 142nd place), Jacob Silva (36:25.8, 160th place) and Josue Trujillo (38:34.5, 164th place).
"The hot weather and constant sun made this a challenging race, but the men still did well. It was fun to see Angelo and Andrew working together for most of the race, as that is something we will need in order for the team to do well these next few meets," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "Jacob Madera and Matthew had their fastest times of the season, which says a lot about what they're capable of and makes things exciting for the final month of the season."
