In a packed field of runners, eight Cyclones earned PRs on the 8K course, and the team finished 11th out of 18 college and university teams at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria.
"This was the fastest meet of the season with most of our men running a PR," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "It came at a great time as we head into the region championship next."
Leading the pack was Andrew Leon, who finished in 27:45.21 for 85th place out of 221 finishers. He earned a PR as did Angelo Esparza (27:49.62, 89th place), David Santiago (28:55.15, 122nd place), Gavin Rybicki (29:21.25, 133rd place), Matthew Busch (30:36.24, 163rd place), Jacob Madera (30:50.58, 168th place), Jacob Silva (32:45.44, 188th place) and Josue Trujillo (35:51.08, 211th place). Juan Macias (30:36.02, 162nd) and Brennan Rudolph (21:34.28, 176th place) ran their second fastest times of the season.
"We've been working on keeping our top trio of Angelo, Andrew and David together, and it was great seeing them run side-by-side for more than half the race before they split up. As fun as it was seeing those three work together, I was more impressed with everyone else. The rest of the men kept moving up places throughout the race, and a few of them ran two to three minutes faster than before," Dimizas noted. "Now, it's about carrying this momentum into the region championship with the aim of winning the title for the first time since 2017."
