The Cyclones dealt College of Lake County its first conference loss of the season with a doubleheader split.
GAME ONE
Some clutch hitting in later innings gave the Cyclones this big 5-4 victory over the conference leaders, shocking the previously undefeated team.
The Lancers led early before the Cyclones scored in the bottom of the fourth after Brooklynn Sedlak (3-for-3, 2 2B, RBI) doubled and Estelle Loth (2-for-3, 2B, HR, 4 RBIs) drove her home on a double. However, it was the four-run fifth inning that gave the Cyclones the edge. Jill Zodrow (1-for-4) and Londynn Sedlak (1-for-3) singled before Brooklynn Sedlak drove another run home. What capped it off was the three-run homerun Loth hit when she came up to bat, making it 5-3.
Although the Lancers tacked on another run, the Cyclones kept a tight lid on them with tough defense and pitching for the win. Haley Tracy led the effort from the mound, allowing three earned runs and walking just one.
GAME TWO
Moraine Valley nearly made a comeback this game, coming up just short in the 9-7 loss.
The Lancers scored all their runs in the first three innings, getting ahead 9-1 after Londynn Sedlak (1-for-3, RBI) hit a solo homerun. But it was the offensive surge in the fifth and sixth innings that gave the Cyclones hope.
A couple of RBI doubles from Loth (2-for-4, RBI) and Megan Hackett (1-for-3, RBI) and an RBI single by Keira Clancy (1-for-4, RBI) got the Cyclones within five runs. They added three more in their next at-bat after Brooklynn Sedlak knocked in two runs on a line drive to left field, and Tracy hit a fly ball but reached base and scored a run on a fielding error to make it 9-7. Unfortunately, the Cyclones had a quick three up, three down final at-bat for the loss.
