A heartbreaking end

A heartbreaking end

They had the fight, desire and talent, but it just wasn't enough for the Cyclones against a tough Black Hawk squad. They fell in the second round of Region 4 playoffs, 3-2.

Coming into this match, the No. 7 seeded Cyclones had a seven-game win streak, coming into their own throughout the second half of the season, including defeating Joliet Junior College, who until that point hadn't lost a game. The No. 2 seed Black Hawk Braves weren't going down without a fight.

"This was a great game to watch. We played beautiful soccer like we have the last eight games," said Head Coach Javier Roman. "It was very hard to lose when we should have won."

Within the first 15 minutes of the game, the Braves scored on a breakaway. The Cyclones continued to push, however, and 10 minutes later evened the score on a perfect cross from Heather Canny to Taylor London.

Nearly halfway into a tied second half, the Cyclones took the lead on another goal from London. The Braves bounced back minutes later to tie it again on a shot that even professional goalies couldn't block. A misstep from the Cyclones defense moments later, however, allowed the Braves to score the go-ahead goal.
