With a couple of runners out, the Cyclones only ran three women at the Spartan Classic in Geneva, but they each had solid races.
This was the first of four 6K races before the Cyclones return to this course for the NJCAA Region 4 championship 5K at the end of October. On a challenging route, the women attacked every hill and used the downhills wisely.
Eva Zimmerman became the fifth fastest 6K runner in Cyclones history in 25:02.2 for sixth place out of 45 finishers, including from four-year universities. "I expect her to keep moving up our records list the next few weeks. She's a strong runner and will continue to improve as she familiarizes herself with the longer distance," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas.
Rylee Milenkovic ran nearly two minutes faster than last season on this course in 27:02.8 for 13th place. "The longer race suits her, and it's a joy to watch her get faster knowing all the work she's put in the past year," Dimizas said.
Fernanda Cabrera completed the trifecta in 28:28.6 for 25th place. "Fernanda is getting more comfortable with racing," Dimizas said. "She had a pack of women around her most of the race and used the competition to her advantage, eventually moving ahead and closing the gap on those in front of her."
