In their season-opening weekend at the Danville Area Community College tournament, the Cyclones split between two tough teams.
Moraine Valley opened play on Halloween against the host college, demolishing the Jaguars in an 83-68 victory. It was a slow start as both teams played even ball, leaving the Cyclones down 20-17 after the first quarter. It was the next two where Moraine Valley surged ahead on offense, outscoring the Jaguars and going up by 29 points. That helped their momentum the rest of the game for the ultimate 15-point victory. Jadea Johnson led the charge with 21 points followed by Shakila Brownlow with 17, Mikayla Summey with 15, Laila Houseworth with 12 points and nine assists and Kyziah Lewis adding 10 points and 10 rebounds.
On Nov. 1, the Cyclones faced the nationally ranked Parkland College Cobras and struggled to find the basket in the 84-68 loss. Although the Cyclones are talented, they were outplayed by the Cobras. Moraine Valley was unable to score 20 points in any quarter. They held the Cobras to just 10 points in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to make a comeback. Johnson led the offense again with 19 points while Brownlow (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Summey (11 points, 12 rebounds) earned double-doubles. Houseworth also contributed 10 points and three blocks.
