Cyclones take on the Dan Hull Memorial Classic

The Cyclones tested their muster against two very tough teams at the Dan Hull Memorial Classic at Triton College, losing both efforts but showing they belong among the talent.

On Nov. 7, the Cyclones faced a tough Region 24 Division I Southwestern Illinois College, falling 101-86. The only time Moraine Valley really faltered was the first quarter, when they were outscored by the Blue Storm 26-18. They surged in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough to get past the deficit. Mikayla Summey earned her first double-double of the season (15 points, 12 rebounds), but Jadea Johnson led in scoring with 19 followed by Laila Houseworth with 18. Shakila Brownlow rounded out the effort with 17 points.

The following day, Moraine Valley battled with Lansing Community College, taking an 89-70 loss. The Cyclones started with a 24-11 lead thanks to some full-court pressure, but once the Stars settled down and Moraine Valley had some foul trouble, the pendulum shifted. Lansing chipped away at the Cyclones lead, getting ahead by two points at halftime. A 12-0 run to start the third quarter gave the Stars a 50-36 lead before the Cyclones fought back to get within single digits. The turnovers, however, hurt Moraine Valley in the end. Johnson had a big offensive game with 24 points. Brownlow earned a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) while Summey added 10 points and nine rebounds.
