Always an exciting rivalry, the Cyclones' battle with Triton College was no different, except unlike the last five years, Moraine Valley came out ahead this time.
The Cyclones jumped ahead early, leading by 11 after the first quarter and by six at halftime. Despite a consistent lead, the Trojans battled back and traded with Moraine Valley in the final quarter to keep the game exciting. With the Trojans ahead 72-69, the Cyclones offense lit up, going on a 5-0 run and capped by Shakila Brownlow attacking the basket and getting fouled with 1.2 seconds left on the clock. As cool as ice, she sunk both free throws to help her team seal the 74-72 victory after Triton missed a last second heave.
Brownlow and Jadea Johnson each collected 18 points while Laila Houseworth added 11, including three three pointers. Lily Hernandez amassed eight points, one of which was a clutch three in the fourth quarter. Kyziah Lewis added eight points, going 3-for-4 from the floor.
