Cyclones crush Chiefs in first big test of 2026

In their first major test of the new year, the Cyclones (10-3) faced conference rival Waubonsee Community College (10-2) at home. With nearly identical records, it was anyone's game, but the Cyclones showed why they are the leading scorers in the region, winning 82-67.

For nearly the entire first quarter, the Cyclones shots were not falling while the Chiefs built a lead. Jadea Johnson scored two then sunk a free throw to tie the game before Laila Houseworth knocked down two threes to secure a 12-8 lead. After that point, the Cyclones continued to extend their lead and hold off the Chiefs offense, going up 35-17 at halftime.

The second half was big for Trajany Walker as she scored 17 points, seven of which were free throws. The Chiefs made a handful of runs in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to stop the Cyclones, who led by as much as 30 points.

Walker led the offense with 24 points followed by Johnson (13 points), Lily Hernandez (12 points) and Houseworth (11 points).
